The Spit V appeared in 1941 - after the BoB. But if we ask nicely, maybe someone out there will build us a nice 1941-43 channel front campaign....

I don't care when it arrived. It looks identical to the MKI and II the only question is does the lowest model provided give a flight model reasonable enough to be included in the current BOB Campaign. I notice their are 4 versions and was hoping the earliets eliptical model was not a huge step upwards from the spitII
We have to accept some of the performance trade offs as its a Vb but I think it would still be fun.

Does anyone thnk Oleg will release a MKI or II before hte BOB comes out I think not!!

I mean if we are not going to get it - this spit will be close enough in my book, just give it 100% fuel all the time or somethin

If you really just can't wait, it is always possible to add the Spits yourself, via the Full Mission Builder. It is a little tedious because you must open each mission individually and change the aircraft, but it is not hard at all.

I regularly make missions

But I was wondering if Extremeone is planning something with the spit and BOB

I dont think Extreme-one has AEP (UK). We all have to wait for that gem.

I'm looking forward to that as much as I am AEP.

You could maybe use The Quick Mission Tuner to edit the RAF missions and change the Hurrys into Spits.

I've got no plans to revisit the "BoB" but I'm definatley going to do 'something' with the Spitfire (when I get AEP)

Hi all,
To Oso2323 etc. What suggestions might you have for research sources for Spitfire actions in 41-43? Extreme_One and I used a great BoB site for the BoB campaign that had a daily action report, losses, weather etc. Is there anything like that available for the post BoB period of cross Channel action?

I'll look into it, but to start, Pierre Closterman's The Big Show and Johnnie Johnson's Wingleader give excellent accounts of operations and are very good at giving you the feel. I've read a number of other books... Dizzy Allen's Fighter Squadron gave an account of escorting Bleinheims in 1941, but you might not want to wade through that one to get to the good stuff. (That's where I thought I could help ;-) )

Another great source is C.G. Jefford's "RAF Squadrons: A Comprehensive Record of the Movement and Equipment of all RAF Squadrons and their Anteceedents since 1912." 1988 Airlife Publishing. It is what it is: a comprehensive listing of all RAF squadrons (including the commonwealth/national sqns), where they were based and what they flew. It also includes maps. While it doesn't list operations, it's still an invaluable resource. The only minor downside to the book is that it doesn't distinguish between sub-variants (i.e. clipped wing or LF Spits)

A couple of suggestions: Squadrons were regularly rotated to the North where they only encountered sleet and the odd reconaissance plane (hint!) New pilots would usually be trained in these distant outposts.

I also have some ideas for a fictional 1944 Mistel attack on Scapa Flow.... Perhaps a mini-campaign with a few reconaissance planes and then boom! But I'm probably getting ahead of myself.

Cheers.

I have a suggestion for the information you are hinting at. I will PM you.

Another book which might be of interest is "RAF Fighter Command" by Norman Franks. It offers good general information. Maybe for day-to-day operations you could use a squadron history?

Did you want anything from the Luftwaffe end?

This is true. But you do realise that only around 50 examples were built with cannon? It was not a standard armament at all. Just an FYI
