I setup a server last night at about 10 pm with a map I made. It's a summer map, with good weather and (game)time was 12 pm. There were about 8 people playing, but I had to go to sleep, so I left it running for the night. When I got up at 8 am and went to check on the game, I noticed the sun was just below the horizon! Ofcourse I dont know if this was a sunset or sunrise. So how does the in-game time relate to real-time?

How does it relate to real time? Depends on how you set it. The game will keep "real" time. Look at the clock on the dash of a 109.
If you set the map time to the same time as your local time it runs pretty close. I dont know how accurate it stays, but it keeps on ticking.

Its pretty accurate. I did just that one night and the sun was coming up in the morning on the other side of the strip. Try it. This sim is awesome. Thats why I get so pissed when people cry and moan about BS like which planes are in the sim or this function or that function. With what we have.....especially now... and considering all the alternatives, there should be no complaints at all about anything in this sim. Suggestions for improvement?? Sure... mainly because we DO have a developer who at least will respond for the most part.. but some of the stuff I read in ORR is so .... just plain stuipid.

The first time I realised that the sim was actually keeping time was when I noticed the clock in my cockpit, then about 2 hours later checked the clock and the timing was near correct! It`s not Timex or Quartz, but it DOES keep pretty accurate time.

P.S. For real `going back in time feelin` go and check out the clock in the Gladiator cockpit. That little second hand on the face looks so real as it ticks away the seconds that I could almost believe I really was in that old cockpit... Just looking at it is amazing.

Just sit in a plane and watch your cockpit clock tick away.

Game time seems to be dead on or as close to real time as possible. Its not compressed in any way...and there must be something on the maps governing the time of sunlight/dusk/night because the winter maps have the sun setting very quickly and in the dead of winter here it seems like its almost right on....same with the summer.

Some DF servers have their time set to the local time so when you go and play at 9:00 at night the sun is setting. Its fantastic!
