I saw work being done on the Tempest V (drool, drool) in the development update screen, and was hoping to see it in AEP.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Any plans to add this bird in the near future? It would be nice to give the Brits a flyable plane that can also do ground-attack--right now a strafing run with a Hurricane IIc is at good as it gets....

Oh, as for the wishlist, how about the Mosquito? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The streetword is that the Tempest V is very near completion, but still not quite ready for release. I haven't checked into its development for a while, but that was what I last heard. I think the modeller became busy with real life or something. Try Netwings.

Oh yay! Another topic for me to post in. Just so you guys know (as if there was doubt) these two are my favorite warbirds. Something about the 4 cannons and the huge radiator and the fact that they pretty much were faster than their contemporaries just seems so appealing.

Anyways the word on the two. The Tempest V is being done by Alex Voicu. He's getting close to being finished and I think he's spent some time tidying things up across the board from the levels of detail to the damage models. He's also doing the cockpit which he says will be finished in short order (we've seen progress reports on this one before) once the actual plane is done.

Harti is working on the Typhoon which is also apparently making very good progress. Harti I believe is looking for a more experienced texture person to pull together that portion of the aircraft. The Typhoon 1B Late and the Tempest Mark V share much in-common for the cockpit so I suspect that an effort will be made to port the one to the other (minor changes are required at most).

In terms of armament both should have full loads including the rockets for the Tempest V which were never recorded as having been used in combat although the aircraft was fully certified to use them (and there are the possibilities that their use was never recorded). It does seem that the Tempest V performed an interesting role of front line armed reconnaisance where they would fly the route and target airborne fighters, bombers, vehicles, trains, and other targets of opportunity as they presented themselves.

Also in terms of flight modeling you should probably expect the Typhoon to have rolling that is about the same as the Zero (in a word aweful), excellent at low altitudes, dropping performance above 6,000 meters for the Typhoon and slightly higher for the Tempest V, a better roll rate for the Tempest V (peak roll rate is about 85 dps), good high speed control, poor low speed control (probably feel a bit like a Mustang), and of course very good low altitude speed performance.

The two aren't super fighters but they have good firepower, high speed, the Tempest has decent manuverability and both have decent turn rates (worse than a Mustang or 109 but should be slightly better than a FW190). So they should be a load of fun http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The Tempest should be an excellent fighter -
one of the fastest prop planes going up to
20,000 feet - on a par with the Mustang and
Spitfire XIV. A decent roll rate too, just
not very spectacular in a turn. It should be
the best overall diving prop plane in the sim
when we get it (except at ludicrous 0.89 mach
numbers).

All very true. In terms of turn rate...its stated as being inside of the FW190...thats generally how the RAF would attack FW190's in Typhoons. They would use speed advantage to overtake and the advantage in turn ability to get inside of the FW190 for the quick gunnery shot. If the FW190 had time to roll away for a Split S then the Typhoon likely wouldn't be able to directly follow because of the much lower roll rate. Less of an issue for the Tempest with its improved roll rate but still there.

And yes it should dive like brick! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sort of a turning fight for things that
go in straight lines though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

If the hispano's work the way they are supposed to. It will just be banned from servers anyway.

Although I fly & fight for Axis i must say: ''Drool, drool!!!!!!!!!!!''
Maybe in the first patch?

I'm hoping for it to be in the second patch with the Ju-88 and the flyable B-25's.

Yeah four 20mm Hispano cannoned aircraft are probably going to be complained about for a while. Infact since everything is complained at I'm totally not surprised.

Likely aim will have to be good because even with 200 rounds per gun on a Tempest V and even higher fire rates than on the Typhoon 1B or Hurricane IIC you'll probably expend your entire magazine in less than 16 seconds.
