View Full Version : Favorite minor characters?

Thought I might start a discussion, sorry if something similar has been discussed before. Favorite minor characters over the whole AC series, I guess any non-playable character or non-main villain.

I personally love Leonardo da Vinci, Yusuf, Achilles, Mary Read and Marquis de Sade just because he was so damn interesting

Gotta give a shout out to Duccio as well just because it was so fun beating him up 3 times

Malik, Rosa and Leonardo are my top three, I guess. And the bureau leader in Damascus, aka Stealth A**hole.

Leonardo Da vinci, Malik, Mary Read, Yusuf, AC III Achilles.

That's a very broad definition of minor character, and I wouldn't consider most of these minor characters at all (but I agree all the ones listed are great characters and among my favorites).

At first thought my favorite truly minor character would have to be the rafiq at the Damascus bureau (you're half-right SixKeys, but I don't think his assholiness was all that stealthy :p).

I envy you, Altair. Well, not where you were beaten and stripped of your rank, but I envy everything else! Oh, except for the terrible things the other Assassins say about you! But yes, aside from the failure and the hatred, yes, aside from those things I envy you very much!
And I like how his opinion of Alta´r improved over time.

Well you're definition of minor seems to mean fairly important side characters...

In which case, just off the top of my head, I really like Leonardo, Yusuf, Achilles, Stede Bonnet (God what a legend this man is), Mary Read and Marquis De Sade.

Plenty more I could have included - AC has some pretty great side characters.

If I had to choose one or two from each game:

Malik, Leonardo Da Vinci/Bartholomew, Achilles/Faulkner, Gerald, Blackbeard/Steve Bonnet

Why does everyone seem to like Stede Bonnet? I mostly remember him as the clueless guy who was obsessed with sugar and then just disappeared.

I think it was a little more than that though.

I mostly remember him as the guy who wanted to be a pirate after sailing with Edward/Blackbeard for a while.

And of course the guy who wet his pants when Blackbeard "appeared to be the devil."

In the English language version, he's played by James Bachman. He's an excellent comedy actor, a regular team member of Bleak Expectations and That Mitchell and Webb Sound/That Mitchell and Webb Look, who's made appearances on lots of other UK comedy shows (Peep Show, The Mighty Boosh, The IT Crowd).

Obviously, not many people who play AC recognise him from his other work but I think his performance talent shines through into his game VA, especially from his radio experience. He's great at adding charm to awkward characters and making you feel like you just heard a joke even if the line isn't really a funny one. Stede Bonnet's scenes were also quite beefed up for a character who is seen so briefly in the story, apparently because he did have a lot more scenes in the original script which were cut along with the related gameplay sections from later parts of the game, which might have something to do with why he caught so many people's attention from so little material.

I hope he'll be in Victory in a larger capacity.

The guy's hilarious, and like D.I.D said he's very well acted. I look at him as a sort of lovable oaf, he didn't have a large role but he made an impression in every scene IMO.

I don't know what "minor" means in this case. These are games with large casts as usual.

Favorite supporting characters: Malik, Leonardo, Machiavelli, Claudia, Caterina Sforza, Yusuf, Suleiman, Achilles, Israel Putnam, Mary Read, Blackbeard, Adewale

Minor (I am assuming): Acre Rafiq, Paola (Courtesan leader in Florence), La Volpe, Piri Reis, Lance the Woodworker, Ah Tabai, Anne Bonny, Pierre Bellec.

Why, though? Is there a default i'm not getting here?Well, children's demeanor tend to feel ''annoying'' because in movies or video games like AC, where you're putting yourself in the shoes of someone who's beyond being ''a kid'', you feel like you are more mature. The cool one. You're above this person who's so young and inexperienced, yadayada. In the case of Leon, who really isn't more annoying than the next guy, it's one of those things where because ''annoying kid sidekicks'' have been so prominent in movies and video games, his role classifies him as one. At least that's what I think.

Disliking kids, and by extension Leon

Well, I dislike kids IRL, so I'm biased, but in entertainment they're often written in an unrealistic way. Maybe because it's hard for people to remember what it was actually like being a child. They either tend to write children as sickeningly pure and innocent, or as horribly obnoxious little ****s. In reality all kids have their good and bad sides, just like adults. They're not wide-eyed little angels and they're not little devils, either. In AC, Petruccio was more the "little angel" type, but we didn't get to see much of him so he didn't get a chance to be annoying. Leon was more the obnoxious type (running away at the worst moments, yelling a lot, making fun of the hero etc.), but he had a few redeeming moments, so he's okay in my book.

Oh my God, yes. He was like 10 years old and an orphan; he'd had a pretty hard life and realistically wouldn't be that naive. Yet with the whole "let's save France" thing he acted like a sheltered kid half his age. Overall I liked him well enough, but that aspect bugged the **** out of me

I understand it was the there to give emo Arno a newfound sense of hope and I actually liked that aspect of the story, but that line is cheesy as all hell.

Keep in mind patriotism was very much alive and pronounced in those days, especially because it was the Revolution. Even grown-ups had this feeling of being able to accomplish great things together (and did). It's really not a stretch at all to imagine a kid of Leon's age buying into that.

I still don't get what's so annoying about Leon.

He's Robin to Arno's Batman. He's just a plot device to get Arno out of his depressive funk. Personally I like the kid for having more b-lls and guts than Arno and other Assassins. The game might as well be called Coward's Creed as far as the French Assassins go.

Anyway DEAD KINGS as a DLC is kind of pointless, has no cool concept and gimmick, and Leon kind of becomes the scapegoat for that unfairly.

Keep in mind patriotism was very much alive and pronounced in those days, especially because it was the Revolution. Even grown-ups had this feeling of being able to accomplish great things together (and did). It's really not a stretch at all to imagine a kid of Leon's age buying into that.

The problem is that Arno is an anti-revolutionary, the main game makes the Templars behind the Revolution, so the Revolution is bad, the King is innocent and the poor people are all evil, and Napoleon is a cool guy.

In Dead Kings, the game is more pro-Revolutionary and anti-Napoleon, so Leon's friendship with Arno is contradictory and false. And Arno isn't any savior of France, he's the guy who was Napoleon's b-tch.

Speaking of Anne Bonny, anyone else have a hard time enjoying IV's historical characters after watching Black Sails? It's a TV series so they have more screen time to develop whereas in BF, you only have like 5 mins worth of screening. Kind of sucks badly in comparison.

Well Black Sails is a piece of s--t TV show that makes a hash of a masterpiece like Treasure Island.

Anne Bonny has a small role in BLACK FLAG but all those moments are great. There are no small parts, only small actors.
