Roll out The Spits

1st one uploaded this version is based ona Low level Photo Reconnasiance Pink Spitfire,Having looked at the cool Pink Camoflague used by the RAF on their Low Level Photo Reconnasiance Aircraft, I decided to paint the Version as worn By Spitfire PL 965 A Spitfire Mk 11 on the Available MK Vb Skin, I feel this model works well and is produced for IL2 Forgotton Battles Aces Pack.
Vickers Supermarine Spitfire PR MK XI (PL965)
The Vickers Supermarine Mark XI Spitfire is best described as being similar to the classic Mark IX fighter but without weapons and some of the protective armour. It was designed for Photo-Reconnaisance and, as a result, is the cleanest and fastest of all the Merlin engined Spitfires. The lack of armament meant that the leading edge of the wing was very streamline and could accommodate extra oil and fuel tanks. The addition of a retractable tail wheel, one-piece wraparound windscreen and enlarged oil tank (giving that distinctive deep chin) meant that the aircraft could fly very fast, very high and cover greater distances than any of its contemporaries of that time. One example of the Mark XI was used for high speed trials at Farnborough, achieving a phenomenal 606mph during a dive which saw the reduction gear and propeller fail and detach from the airframe (happily the test pilot landed without further drama!). The Spitfire was fitted with three cameras, two vertical (pointing downwards) and one oblique (pointing out from the side of the fuselage), the purpose of which was to provide surveillance, mapping and bomb damage assessment. is ready for your perusal at
