Not so much a suggestion as a general thought - imagine having the variable of arresting wire failure. Touch down, hook snags... and SNAP! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif No more wire. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif
I remember this possibility from naval training, when we all had to watch the video of such an incident on the Coral Sea... NOT PRETTY! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif For those who might've seen this, you know I am referring to the poor hookman; all others can use their imagination. Anyhoo, can you imagine this happening on the straight decks of a WW2 carrier when you touch down? Wham... Tug... Why am I not stopping? At least modern day ones have the angled flightdeck for this contingency.
Same for a hook bouncing over the wires. Throw in a percentage that this might occur during the landing. Oh my, those parked planes are getting awfully big! Well... at least we spared the hookman. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Again, these are not suggestions. With everything being stuffed into this program, including these things would be like fitting 20 ounces of coke into a 12 ounce can.
