and not 630?

the F2 is 616.. the F4 had a 250+ HP increase and a new and better prop installed.. but yet people think that would only increase the top speed 15kph?

the Rechlin Speed Documents and 1 Flight Compare Test

Date on 1.6.42

Plane Type Bf109F-4

Max speed at x km alt ( 670km/h at 6,2km and 625km/h at 10km ) , with GM1 the Bf109F-4 gain at 10km alt +120km/h

Max Speed 650km/h at 5,8km

second document.

It is a Comparison flight between Bf 109 F 4 and FW 190 A 2 datet on 11.12.41

since we have seen, that the FW190A-2 have max speed about 650km/h
translated: The inferiority of the FW is to be noticed more in greater altitude and runs up to about 15 to 20 km/h

This mean.s, The Bf109F-4 is about 15 - 20km/h faster at higher altitude than the Fw190.

650 + (15 / 20 ) = like 670km/h

3rd source
Compared Flight Test ( CLIMB and Speed ) between Bf109F and FW190

the Bf109F-4 ( NON Z ) reached at 6500m altitude 670km/h

according to the Factory test on the 109f4 weighing 2890kg it speeds were

TAS
SL=540
1km=560
2km=580
3km=600
4km=620
5km=637
6km=665
6.25km=670 MAX

just thought you might like to know... if you would like to view the orignal factoy doc's they will be posted on http://www.derzeugmeister.de
with in a week or 2.. the german researches are still finishing up the site for the public..

Yes and according to several other Messerschmitt and Daimler-Benz documents the engine had to be derated because of overheating hence the loss of speed. Check for instance the F-4/Z or F-4/R1 manuals as well as the August 1941 issue of the DB601E manual. The full boost was not officialy re-instated until may 1942.

Interesting... I have always wondered how could the heavier G-2 be faster with LESS power than the F-4... well it seems the answer simply it wasn`t.

Speaking about which...wouldn´t it be nice to have the above mentioned Fw190A2 in the 1941 planeset? I would love to have it there.

To the F4 top speed: lets hope all speeds and parameters will be absolutely correct one day. Must be lotsa work I imagine to fix it all.

Hmm, I've got U.S. test charts for the F4 and it reports max speed of 627 at 20000 feet...

I remember seeing some other threads on this.

Those tests were optimum, and weren't sustainable in real life. The engines couldn't take the stress and would fail.

They were the same as the speed tests which showed P-51's doing 420 mph at ground level. Not realistic for planes which had to fly every day.
