Check them out. Final Spit VB with almost final texture. LOD and DM's will be done next week. Jeronimo said he is making very good progress with the cockpit and I hope to be able to show some of that soon. I have not even seen it! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Also I started work on the PBY cockpit. Just modeling it out a bit. Take a look on my web page at http://www.gibbageart.com and tell me what you think!

Spit looks fantastic Gib, as does the PBY. Lots of work there. One question....Is the nose gunner station and that other one,(I don't know what it was for) in the wing support going to be modelled ie player accessable (Being that I don't know what that 2nd station was for, I don't know what, if any purpose it would serve in the game. I'm just asking.)
I can hardly wait to fly the Cat.

Buhhh, a Spit with red stars. Looks like a cow is climbing up trees. A Spits needs RAF/SAAF/RAAF Concards./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

just kidding

Yeah...how about a RCAF option on the markings selector http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Great work, I honestly can't wait! I'm jumping around like RBJ's old sig =)

One question though. The red gunflaps (I think they are), will they come off when you fire the guns for the first time?

The 2nd station is for the flight engineer. you would only have a view to port and starboard thro small windows an i think down into the cockpit so it would not be worth having IMHO

I second that! And a voice package as well! Also, I think it was RAF policy to mix the nationalities of their squadrons.

Love that Spit model!

hi gibbage.
the pby looks great, but i have a question about it. are u planning to add landing gear to it? ive seen many pictures that show landing gear, but have never seen one wihtout gear. were there versions of the plane that could only land on water? i also know that there arent any controls that could be used to put down just the platoons or just the gear so could that be the reason? anyway keep up the good work.

Correct. Capt.FlushGarden deserves all the credit. He is a wonderful skinner and very new to the IL2 comunity even though he played often. Very talented artist and I am honored my model is hosting his work. Im "braking" him in as you would say.

- The PBY-5 was built purely as a seaplane and could only be brought ashore using beaching equipment.Later models however (PBY-5A) were fitted with a retractable tricycle undercarrige and could be beached on its own wheels or landed on a conventional airstrip the A designation stood for amphibian.

The PBY will be my favorite plane in the game when it is flyable.

I mean, I join AI enabled servers for the sole purpose of landing and taking off in the water with the Cat.

Its so much fun! Imagine a landing from the bombadeir's perspective!

What is also fun is what i like to call 'skimming.'

You get a seaplane, cat usualy because it has the most gunners, and put it on the water. raise your external floats, and give your engines full throttle . . . but keep the elevators forward . . so you become a really, really fast boat.

The bonus of this is this: when someone shoots a wing off, enough compensation on the wheel will keep you zooming along with no problems. If someone incapacitates an engine, its no biggie.

If someone shoots all your controles and destroys both engines, all you do is wait untill you slow to a stop and take a 'xxx has landed in the feild'

when you get near your target, just pop up, drop your bombs, and get back in the water.

This strategy only works in the game though, real life has these things called 'waves.'

"ive seen many pictures that show landing gear, but have never seen one wihtout gear. were there versions of the plane that could only land on water?"

IIRC RAAF 11, 13, 20 & 43 Squadron Catalinas were all no-wheelers /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif They used to have ramps and immersible, wheeled cradles at their bases for dry land servicing and maintenance.

There will be a great need for good RAAF "black cat" skins when Gibbage's great work is finished /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
