Did you see the dual-core 9800 Pro MAX? It won't ever be made, but sure would be awesome.

It was built by Sapphire. They have no plans to make it available for retail. It would cost around $1000 they say.

<size=1><color=green>
"AGAIN, OUR good Italian friends have pointed to one of the most interesting pictures that people following computer graphics can view.

The boys were able to take a picture of a unique card from Sapphire that is based on two Radeon 9800 PRO chips solution that would undoubtedly be the fastest card that exist. Apart from this, it would feature two DVI outs very useful stuff in Professional market and we wonder that it could easily have 512 MB or Ram 2x256 MHz to be precise since each chip can address 256 MB only.

We learned that at 10 layer PCB it is simply impossible to make this card work and that this card will never come to market. We believe that even ATI was surprised with this since Sapphire used to follow what ATI does and in this case ATI never played with Radeon 9800 MAXX design.

Still we believe that Sapphire could make this card work, even it would be freakily expensive - maybe in the $1000 range. ATI would need to write the drivers.

Be sure that this card will never hit retail shelves but it is good to know that this is an option that can come if necessary in near future. Sapphire proved that it can do more then make ATI replicas and we believe that was the point of showing an incredibly impressive looking card that does not work."

Looks every bit the monster/sound screen that the 5800Ultra was. I doubt it will be much faster than the 5900U, and might still be slower than my year old 9700 pro. Pass.

No Thanks! That thing is not going anywhere near my system! There's a difference betwee a good product and overkill. What's up with NVidia? Haven't they learnt from their GeForceFX5800Pro debacle? Nvidia's a good company, but it shouldn't try to undercut the competetion by dealing in mutant monsters. Hat's off to ATI for squeezing 417MHz out of 0.15 micron technology (the core clock speed o the R380).

looks like a nice card! I think that, by this time next year, we'll have 1Gb RAM on graphics cards - place your bets!

in fact - if it's got a big fan it will be quieter, a bigger than can have a move more air at less revolutions than a little, screaming fan - that is why it will be big http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I guess you never heard the old 5800U. Well if you did, you cant hear much of anything for at least 15 mins after, and it used the same fan and cooler style.

bigger fans are quieter than small ones, thats why a case with 7 large fans will be quieter than my case which has about 3 smallish ones, its not loud but i have seen the computer with 7 fans running its quiet, it was one of those u cant get anymore top of the line machines at the time, 3.2ghz fx5900u 1gb ddr etc.

OK guys. Let me educate you on something. Im an AVID overclocker and I know a lot about fans. SIZE DOES NOT MATTER!!! Speed and blade shape does.

Hampster cage fans like that on the video card produce high CFM and low speeds with little noise. I have one hooked up to my Athlon CPU. Now, they produce a LOT of noice at high speeds due to a much greater air disturbance. Please note the size of the motor on the fan above. Its rather large and the blades are small leading me to the conclusion that its a high RPM fan. I will try to pull up a web page that has a recording of the FX5800U fan, but it sounds like a dust buster, and im NOT kidding. The FX chips produce a LOT of heat and it needs a LOT of fan to keep it cool.

Gib,

That's the 5800. Nvidia screwed up bad with that card. The 5900 is whisper quiet. Much quieter than the 9800. I don't think nvidia will come out with anymore leaf blowers.

btw..Larger fans do flow more air, and don't need to turn as many rpms.
