Hi.

Is there any info on whether the Gloster Gladiator plane will be made flyable at some point? I'm interested in this because it's one of the planes Finland used in the war, and thus it'd be nice to be able to fly it. And then it should of course have the Finnish skin as well.

And then some other planes... I wish the I-153 was added for Finns too, because it was used. There was a separate unit for Finnish I-153s, that I know for sure. I think Finland did also have I-16 planes, but I don't have any exact data on that yet. Also Finland had Hurricanes, but currently they are Allied-only.

I do know that if the plane is flyable, you can use it in the mission builder for any country, but the skins and all that still present an issue.

Interesting page about FAF (http://www.sci.fi/~ambush/faf/color.html)

The Finns had only eight captured and eleven bought I-153. Scoring only six victorys they didn´t play a big role in the war.

Thanks for the pointer! That should solve the skin issue.

Now, if I actually learned to play the game better, then I could do justice to the nice planes available http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I flew the Gladiator for the first time last night. I fought 2 on 2 duels with Fiats and such. What a sweet little thing. She just won't stall and you can loop and turn till you are dizzy.

Course, most Russian bombers just outran me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

FB Gladiator is quite remarkable piece of graphics, really nice work.
As for comments for speed, Gladiator was clearly victim of 1930s thinking about fast bombers, like 'Skorostnoi Bombardirovtsik-2' (ok, not sure about that name)aka SB-2. So unless U have alt, U can forget about intercepting those with Gladiator. At Malta before German participation, Gladiators were in same position against Italian bombers and slightly even with CR-42's.
GL was susceptible to fuel tank ignition and other was pilot having no armour. FAF's black day was 29 Feb 1940 during Winter War, 7 GLs were destroyed by Polikarpovs, mostly catching fire when shot at. Situation raised after scramble command to intercept bombers, instead there were Polikarpovs waiting.

Yes, that was a dark day for the FAF... yet even with the total surprise and with the Finnish planes only just taking off when the Soviets were already attacking them, the Finns managed to give them back plenty too. Don't remember the exact number of Soviets downed, but it was more than the number of Finns shot down.

Only one Finnish Gladiator survived that fight. I'm not sure if that was the last one in the whole FAF at that point, or if any more were received after that, but still, that even pretty much ended the service of the FAF's Gladiators. After that the Winter War's aerial fighter defence was up to planes like the Fokker D.XXI (of which 1 out of 10 was destroyed in that same battle, though Finns had more of them elsewhere) and the totally overaged Bristol Bulldogs and the like.

The Finns used the RUSSIAN I-153?? I don't think so http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Besides, the Glosters used in that battle were flown by the Swedes fighting alongside with the Finns

Yes, the Finnish Air Force used plenty of Soviet war booty planes. I-16, I-15bis, I-153, SB-2, DB-3, LaGG-3 etc... and even a single P-40. Some of them I only learned myself just recently from reading the skin descriptions while looking for Finnish skins, as suggested, on il2skins.com - like the LaGG-3 and P-40.
