I use the QMB almost exclusively - FMB is just too much faff, I've just realised that I very rarely do a take-off! Normally its in-flight then (crash) land.
How about the option to start a QMB from a runway, this could even make it easier to include new maps - more control over the terrain.

Fbuster,

The QMB uses templates for the missions, they are not generated dynamically. So, to get take-off waypoints, all of the templates would have to be edited and the GUI would probably have to be changed. Maddox Games doesn't seem to have the time or interest to do this.

There is a relatively easy way to edit QMB missions. All mission information is saved in the track file in a simple text format. (Note: this is only true if the track is saved in the IL2 format with the .trk extension, _NOT_ in the FB format with the .ntrk extension.)

-Create a QMB mission, start the mission, run for a second or 2, quit the mission, save the track as QMB.trk (or any other name you like), quit FB.
-Open the QMB.trk file in Notepad.
-Scroll near the bottom to find the following line:
[$$$record]
-Delete that line and everything the follows it.
-Save the file somwhere in you missions folder as QMB.mis (Remember to change File Type from "txt" to "all" in the Notepad "save as" dialog box.)
-Create an empty file in Notepad, save as QMB.properties to the same location as QMB.mis
-Start FB, open QMB.mis in the FMB, edit as you like.

By altering your target, side, defense, etc., in the QMB GUI you can get access to the many stock missions in the QMB, in different parts of the map.

I'm too busy and too lazy to make complex missions in the FMB from scratch. This "hack" gives access to complex missions, with all the AAA, patrol boats, defenses, etc. of The QMB with about a minute of work.

I'ts also relatively easy to substitute the No-Trees map for the one with the palm trees, without using the destruction tool:

-Open a regular Pacific mission file in notepad.
-edit the second line that reads "MAP Net8Islands/load.ini" to "MAP Net8Islands/load_v2.ini"
-Save in notepad. Then open the mission in the FMB, save the mission.

The palm trees will be gone, except for a few at the horseshoe island and at the bases.

Or you could just go to the Sturmovik Essentials thread in my sig and get the UQMG from UberD's website.

FMB is where I live these days. I use the QMB to test some combat skills and manuvering or test run some weapons but the FMB is entirely where its at. I wouldn't say its too much faff.

Learning curve is steep but very short. It makes sense almost instantly. Try here if you want to learn: http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_fmb101.htm

QMB is how I learnt to fly...it would be nice if it had richer features to help people with learning etc. An option to land and take off would be very much appreciated and with the upcoming PF an option to take off from a carrier would be a good idea.

Also having an option to set a ship as your target would be nice.

FMB is quite easy to use though once you figure it out.

UQMG is fine for fairly complex quick missions. A useful alternative is Mission Mate, which meets your requirement of an enhanced QMB. You can quickly get airfield bounces and it allows large height differences between engaging a/c allowing more realistic positioning than the basic qmb mission
