First i must say its fantastic to have a
Pacific Flight sim the caliber of PF being created. I hav'ent played a Pacific flight sim
since AOTP & PAW1942 back in 94 and CFS2 recently. The plane list for Allied thoughbreds looks pretty solid but what about the Japanese stable?
From the only plane list that i've seen so far for PF since E3 is this one [URL=http://www.gamepro.com/computer/pc/games/previews/35574.shtml]]
What about N1K1-J, 2J "George", Ki-45 "Nick", Ki-100, J2M Raiden "Jack" & Ki-44 Shoki "Tojo"?
I will be buying for sure but it would be nice to have the above mentioned thoughbreds in the sim. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Plane lists continue to be of major interest among flight sim enthusiasts.. go figure.

The aircraft for PF both flyable and AI are still a work in progress..so no definite list exists yet or will likely exist for a while.

The principal party has said that there will be 40 or so flyable and as many as 100 total so we can be sure these will include the significant planes + some surprises.

We must be patient (if possible) and accept whatever time it takes and also be aware that this company maintains its titles so planes that dont make the release could be added later.

Another point to keep in mind that this title came out of a relationship (Luthier/Oleg) that grewup around 3rd party a/c model production. The result is a list that is more heavily weighted toward the Allied side because;
a. Most of the modelers wanted to do these types and many (maybe most) were started before the deal on PF was done.
b. Sources on Japanese a/c are not as readily available.

Hey - you are getting a Jill (ok - AI only but still) - and that to me speaks volumes about what may be in store down the road.

Yeah, speaks volumes. The Jill was of little importance compared to the Judy dive bomber.

No complaints about the plane list please http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Even if we had two extra years for this project we wouldn't be able to model every single plane that served in the Pacific. Knowing how much resources we'd have I think we made some pretty good choices, giving a lot of the major planes mixed in with some of the minor ones to create interesting gameplay variety.

Of course, chances are somebody's favorite plane is not in there, but I don't think we have any really critical omissions in the list. After all, the original Il-2 became a huge success with only the 109 intiially flyable for the Germans, and such major planes as the Bf-110 and Il-4 missing altogether.

Of course, these omissions in the original IL-2 were largely ignored because the community just wasn't used to getting a lot from the developers. What they did get back then was tons more than any other developer ever did in a flight sim, whereas nowadays the community is used to getting everything their heart desires and their standards became incredibly high.

Just remember how long it took the IL-2 franchise to become as extensive as it is now - it wasn't this way from the first day. It'll be the same thing with PF, a gradual process which will begin with a nice hefty package offering wide variety of gameplay which will continue to grow giving you more and more new things to try as you grow tired of the old ones http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oh well, at least I'll be able to fly my Ki-43...hopefully IIB until someone makes a Ki-45.

See doesn't that just sound so good. And its not really even a case of believing it when we see it.

If you look at what we got with FB 1.0 and what we had by 1.22 (the last patch specifically for FB) anyone can quite clearly see that we added flyables, one major map and two smaller maps, and a ton of new gameplay options just by providing new maps and major flyable types...and that was for free!

I don't see PF just ending when its released. If it carrys on the tradition, it'll be a fantastic product with an immense level of continuing support. The reason this series does well is because its still being supported directly by the developers a year later.

In turn, its a smart move for them because they have a sustained user base thats still in the loop when the next product comes around.

I like it, I'll remain cautiously optimistic as always, but I like it.

Yeah, I think some poeple forget that PF will almost certainly continue to get new planes via patches,add-ons,etc. after it's initial release. I won't complain, knowing PF will be continually expanded upon... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That's great to know that PF will continue to expand after its release. Though IL2 didn't have many planes to offer initially it ultimately ended up with cool planes like the Bf110 and Ta152. Hoping that PF will extend to the same extent.

...true - and I'm sure if a modeler had stepped forward to do the Judy instead of the Jill we would have the Judy.

Don't worry man - she'll show up eventually.

What exactly is "whinning"?

heywooood
05-18-2004, 06:14 PM
precisely - or more aptly " what is the purpose of whining"?

and Spectre - just in case the spelling really did throw you - it is what 2year olds do in the k-mart when pops says they can't have any candy.

No heydude, the spelling didn't throw me off. I've learned to decrypt most of the stuff in the forums. While your example of "whining" is a good one, I find the term thrown about ad nauseum. It has it applications, but quite often it is used to demean valid issues with which the labeler does not agree or understand. Of course, we're dealing with quite a number of posters who don't know the difference between "to, too and two", so it shouldn't be a surprise, eh?

Love the Foo Fighters but i thought of the term
FooFTR from the luminescent balls of fire/static electricity that air crews/ both allied & axis saw during WWII.

Cool,

I knew about the official term, though. Are you on the FF postboard? They are my absolute favorite band.
